The Annenberg Foundation Trust at Sunnylands in partnership with the Council of Women World Leaders, The White House Project, and the Women Leaders Intercultural Forum launched the International Women Leaders Global Security Initiative in October 2006. This initiative aims to bring the perspectives and voices of global women leaders to the international discourse on security.

The initiative focuses on two core programs:

A Global Security Summit that will provide approximately 75 women leaders the opportunity to address common security concerns and share best practices to increase both human and state security. It will convene an international network of women leaders, including current and past heads of state and government, influential ministers, and the directors of leading intergovernmental and nonprofit organizations.

A documentary film and supplementary materials that will focus on the unique role of women leaders building the conditions for security in their communities and in the world. These resources will highlight some of the women leaders participating in the Summit and be shared with the general public, think tanks, universities and civil society organizations around the world, with a particular emphasis on girl-serving organizations.

The International Women Leaders Global Security Initiative was made possible with the assistance of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania.
