Two new Sunnylands Trust films have been honored with Hermes Creative Awards from the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP). The films, which chronicle historic Supreme Court cases on the internment of Americans of Japanese ancestry during World War II (Korematsu v. United States) and the right to equal protection of the law afforded to all persons by the 14th Amendment (Yick Wo v. Hopkins), were selected among approximately 3,700 entries by the AMCP judges.
The Constitution Project: Korematsu and Civil Liberties was named a gold Hermes award winner, presented to those judged to exceed the high standards of the industry, while The Constitution Project: Yick Wo and the Equal Protection Clause received a platinum Hermes, recognizing excellence in quality, creativity and resourcefulness. The films, produced by the Documentary Group of N ew York for the Annenberg Foundation Trust at Sunnylands, are among four Sunnylands Trust films developed for use in schools nationwide to enhance students' understanding of the Constitution. They will be released for use in classrooms nationally in advance of Constitution Day 2009. For more information about Sunnylands Constitution Day programs, visit www.sunnylandsclassroom.org.
